A small group of animal rescue people saw a need for help to stop the euthanasia (killing) of innocent dogs and cats, puppies and kittens in the greater Manatee county community. With years of experience among them, this group formed a Steering Committee and began the work of creating a long term permanent animal sanctuary in eastern Manatee county where the population was booming.
It became obvious that bringing adoptable animals and some that had medical issues, or behavior issues, could be offered to a wide ranging population of new families living in the area and many more moving in. While current rescue groups have focused in their surrounding areas of the west side of the county, the east has been virtually untapped to not only adopt animals but provide a haven for current and future needs.
This Steering Committee also believed that the aging population would present an additional issue and strain on existing rescue shelters…pets outliving their owners and the owners wanting to be sure their beloved companion animal or animals are taken care of. The Sanctuary will offer this for them. We will take their animal in and rehome it …the very best option, or keep it at our Sanctuary if not appropriate to adopt out.
When we adopt out any animal…we thoroughly evaluate the new owners and do follow up for the adoptee. We need to ensure the animal is cared for as we would want and as its prior loving owner would have wanted.
We believe in saving animals from abuse, from neglect, from situations that are not appropriate environments for the animal or the family. A 150 pound dog in a one bedroom apartment with overcrowding of kids and family would not be a good situation for the dog or family. A family that needs help with training the animal, caring for it…these are areas we can help with. Every life is precious to us. Human and animal.
We believe in spaying and neutering every animal that comes to us. The overpopulation must stop. Only then will the useless euthanasia stop. There is much more information on this website about animal overpopulation in our country and the world. Each of us must step up when we believe we can help.
We believe that justice and compassion go hand in hand. Animals should not be abused, We uphold the local laws and the state and federal laws. We will stand up for animals to be protected and taken from abusive situations. We will not tolerate dog fighting or any activities that are done to hurt any animal. It is up to every citizen to monitor their conscience in this regard. Do the right thing for the animal and for our children – for the community. |
